WSC-SD NEWSLETTER VOLUME 2, ISSUE 4 June 8, 2007

WSC-SD : "Ready to Act? Realising Sustainability through Collaboration"

Welcome to the Volume 2, Issue 4 of your monthly WSC-SD Newsletter. The WSC-SD Newsletter employs a simple and concise format to keep you updated by means of bringing key information directly to your desktop about WSC-SD events, activities and news from various Student Communities (SCs), Executive Board (EB), "Vision" editors and Web team (WT).

I am pleased to be the one to edit the Newsletter this month in behalf of Laura Meredith, Editor-in-Chief from ISSUE3, since she is now in Alaska for her research where the internet access is unreliable and found it hard for her to achieve such a pleasure to edit the one this month.

I apologies that I wasn't able to publish this ISSUE4 earlier, but hope we can know more about each other throughout this newsletter and collaborate more in the near future! Thanks to everyone for cooperating in the process of making this ISSUE under such an alteration of editor. Please be noted that we will accept contributions for the next newsletter received by June 25. Marie Onga Editor this month

Your email feedback is welcome. Please send feedback to executiveboard@wscsd.org

Whatever your topic of interest is, it's just a click away…enjoy!

3. UPDATE FROM YOUNDE University of Younde I Association pour le Developpement Durable (UYI-ADD),Camerroon

Sustainability is a new concept for our society and some people don't well understand the right way of this. This is why our association asked to Dr. Jean Tchouankoue (Lecturer at The University of Yaounde I) to speak in our name as the responsibility of this institution.

During the discussion, he explained to them, the meaning of Sustainable Development, the aim of sustainability and his positives aspects for our University, our town, country and the world.

At the end of this encounter, the General Secretary of the University of Yaounde I, appreciate the initiative of having a group as the UYI-ADD in our University.

He also proposed the vulgarization of sustainable development in the University of Yaounde I, by introducing (in few years), this concept in some courses.

5. PROPOSAL to have COLLABORATION from the Student Council of The Delft University of Technology

Subject: We need YOU to speak on our symposium!

Dear Students from all over the world,

We are a group of students from Delft University of Technology tha , among many other things, works sustainability on our university.

Last January we visited the University of Tokyo on a study trip to examine how Japan handles the topic of sustainability. There we met Marie (from AGS-UTSC) and she told us about the WSC-SD and this gave us an idea:

This year our University celebrates its 165th birthday by dedicating this year to sustainability, with a focus on Africa . On the 1st and 2nd of November there will be a symposium on sustainability and we would like you to help us give a presentation on this symposium. We would like to do this by means of video conferencing.

The idea is that we explain something about Japanese and international cooperation in the field of sustainability based on the findings of our study trip. Then we finish with the AGS and the WSC-SD. We like to ask students from several universities to tell everyone what their university does on sustainability in about 5-10 minutes, thereby demonstrating the use and power of international cooperation and promoting these international networks. After this, the audience can ask questions to the speakers.

To do this we need you! If you are interested in this idea you can contact us by e-mailing to info@aag.tudelft.nl. If you are interested in the symposium you can look at www.lustrum.tudelft.nl.
